- =========================[ BETA TEST VERSION ]==============================
-
- Have you ever wanted a program but the person who had it was beta testing
- it and was not authorized to release it? My policy is a wee bit different.
- I make my program available to everyone for beta test. This does leave me
- open for public criticism, which I can take (if they're constructive). I do
- have some courtesies that I would ask you to abide by as a beta tester.
-
- ** If the program "damages" PCBoard data files please post a (courteous)
- message immediately letting folks know of the problem. It will be fixed
- shortly after I see the message. The procedures I use to access PCBoard's
- files are based upon the guidance provided by David Terry so I don't expect
- problems (but then again, what programmer does?). I also test the programs
- on my own three-node system.
-
- ** Notice I emphasize "damages", if there are nit-noid bugs in my program
- please leave me "PRIVATE" messages stating what they are. Blasting me in
- public serves no useful purpose and may only serve to lower others
- confidence in my programs (which is why many may go with months of private
- beta testing prior to release). I'm providing a "FREE" service at a great
- expense of my time and ask nothing in return (except that YOU be courteous).
-
- ** Do not yell at me (grin). I notice sometimes that when a user has a
- problem with a program they will get on a board and yell at the author (or
- leave unhappy comments). In my opinion, if they paid for the program they
- have every right to demand a working version. With FREE (beta) programs I
- feel that right does not exist. If you get angry with my program simply
- install it on a disk, stomp on it, tear it into little pieces, and then
- throw it away and never use it again (that's your right). Because I'm
- providing a free service I don't feel I deserve to get yelled at. I do
- accept responsibility for my programs (which is why I will support them).
-
- WHAT I PROVIDE TO YOU
- =====================
- ** Free quality programs (non-nagware and no strings).
-
- ** Support - as time permits I will incorporate any ideas that will benefit
- all users. Bugs will be fixed immediately.
-
- ** Free source code (TC++) if you are a member of the developers conference.
- All my utilities will be uploaded in the developers conference with full
- source code and documentation (with each release).
-
- TIPS FOR BETA USE
- =================
- ** Create a "beta" conference and initially use the utilities I provide in
- that conference alone. When you are confident the program works as
- advertised you can open it up to other conferences.
-
- FEEDBACK
- ========
- "No news is goods". I have a number of utilities out and so far have heard
- no feedback on them. This could mean one of two things.
-
- 1. No one is using my utilities (grin).
- 2. My utilities are working as advertised.
-
- You don't have to provide feedback unless you want to. I'll continue to
- assmeme (I always spell that wrong) that "no news is good news".
-
- FINAL NOTE
- ==========
- My utilities are based on C++ OOP class libraries. When they
- are completed (and tested which you are doing) utility generation will be
- a snap. I hope to offer SYSOPS a free alternative to many shareware
- products. Because I do so many utilities and don't concentrate on any one in
- particular, my programs won't be of the same calibre as their shareware
- counterparts; however they will be free and they will get the job done...
